Hi All :)
I have owned a Freelander 1.8 GS since January this year and on the whole its been ok, how ever........:rolleyes:

Can any one assist on the following please-

Low Compression-
The vehicle had a poor idle speed and would cut out on pulling slowly in to a parking space for example, I have been given strong fuel additive by my mechanic which helped it run better but still cuts out, next we compression tested it and it came back as 1- 14 bar 2- 6 bar 3- 6 bar and 4- 11 bar.

The Head Gasket has been done at some point but they didnt repair the valves, so the plan is to take head off, skim it and repair valves and do the Cambelt and Exhaust Manifold Gasket(leaking) at the same time.

Resistance when reversing-
When reversing off my drive way the vehicle has resistance unless you give enough rev's, its fine going forward, any ideas?

Windscreen Misting Up-
The windscreen in this Freelander is always misting up despite it having a brand new windscreen(because other got chipped), forever cleaning it and had a a/c re-gas. Demisters work fine so why does it do this!

Unusual to have both centre cylinders low compression if it's valves... I suspect head gasket isn't sealing properly. Normally only one cylinder is low for valve burn.....

Fair point...! I was working on the basis that HG had just been done.... Properly...
 
it might be a question of did they use new head bolts I have seen this before.
If the bolts are still in spec, Rover say that the bolts may be reused.
I feel it's better to reuse in spec OE bolts than change them for budget after market bolts.

Easy solution, PX it on a diesel.

So you can drive onto your drive OK, but reversing off needs more wellie? Its not on a slope your drive by any chance?

Seriously though - take head of the VCU comments - get it checked out - or (easier) take the props & VCU off the car and see if its like driving a different vehicle.

I don't think windscreens actually contain moisture - even when they're new. I think they're glass or something very similar. You'll probably find there is moisture getting inside your vehicle either from the heater matrix, a poorly fitted replacement screen, knackered sunroof, corrosion in the roof gulley thingies (it can run down unnoticed behind the plastic trim). Or possibly you have a very big hairy dog that likes swimming before he jumps in your car. Check the goldfish bowl - make sure its not overflowing.
