I purchased a defender 110 300 tdi in january it had 170 km on the clock it was literally brand new I put a two inch lift and some 33's , the van drove fine for about 3 months , this week I noticed a loud knock coming from the front , sounds like it came from the transfer case , every time I pull off in first it makes the loud knock and vibrates a bit , any advice would be greatly appreciated , I was told it was natural to have a knocking noise on a defender . Was wondering if I caused any damage to the transfer case by lifting it , thanks in advance for any help ,

Regards Lawrence

First thing I would do is check the U-joints. Anytime you add height you add stress on the ujoints...chances are that's where you problem is.

Find a "flat" spot...put the truck in neutral, crawl underneath and see if you have any play in the ujoint.

Let us know what you come up with.

Hey guys just tried it the u joints feel tight . should I remove the shafts from the van and check them ? To answer your question Fanatic I haven't installed the double cardon shafts, but I've heard of them , who sells them and what's a good brand ? Could the u joints have been damaged with about 3000 km of use after the lift ?

Get someone to rock it forward and back in gear with the engine off and lay under it.. you will see all the play in the drive train, props etc. Make sure its not the exhaust.

Hey guys this morning had the emergency brake on went under the van and had my wife rock it back and forth apparently the bolts on the flange that sits on the brake drum were loose tightened then up and the noise is gone , Thanks for all the help . Fanatic I found some Baily Morris shafts online its easier for me to order online becasue I live in trinidad, are they any good ? I see wide angle props and double cardon props, will the wide angle work or double cardon is the way to go ? Can I send u a private message to discuss further , thanks ,

Better off asking the guys on here who have lift kits fitted-glad it was just loose bolts

May still invest in the front double cardan prop . Read an article about a two inch lift on a defender that destroyed 2 transfer cases in a year .
