Hey all,

If i accidently change gear to hard/let my foot of the clutch hard in my 200tdi Disco 1, 1991. I get a large knock sound, I don't think it is internal to the gearbox at all as it doesn't wine or grind at all, its more a knock as if the whole box has jolted.

My initial thought is it could just be bushes?

Could anyone shed any light on my albeit breif description :)

Thanks
Jamie :D

my 300tdi is doing this also but its the transfer box. checked my diffs u/j's cv's and shafts, but the t/box has aload of slop on it

It attaches to the top of rear axle on a mount next to the rear dif. then there are 2 arms that attach it to the chassis.

if it hasnt got a cross drilled gear in transfer box ,gear box mainshaft splines may be worn you can check by removing pto cover on rear of t/box if A frame ball joint is ok
