Newbie to the site and bit of a novice to repair work.I drive a 300 tdi disco automatic, could anyone tell me what I would need to purchase regarding the brake servo unit and master cylinder, not sure if there is any difference between an auto and a manual could anyone help,thanks.

No difference in auto or manual regarding brakes, regarding what you need in purchasing, the servo that's a standard item, for the master cylinder there two, ABS or none ABS depending on your vehicle, plus brake fluid to replace fluid lost..
 
As @wammers has already said, check the vacuum system first.
You'll be a bit miffed if you go to the expense of replacing the servo, master cylinder and then changing all the fluid only to find that your problem was caused by a split or badly fitted pipe from the vacuum pump to the servo, or even a worn pump.
At least on the 300tdi, the pump is a separate unit you can fairly easily reach, on the Td5 it's part of the alternator, but that's another story.
