ive lost my only set of keys to my 1980 series 3.... getting in isnt a problem as its got a dodgy window lol. but i was wondering if theres anything i can do about the ignition, rather than buying a complete new ignition switch/steering lock?
i know a lot of the sII ignition barrels are the same, and identifiable by numbers stamped on the barrel.... is it the same for the s3's?

or, can i replace the switch/lock for an earlier one with no steering lock?

any ideas would be much appreciated. as i dont really fancy forking out £60 for a new ignition switch.

cheers,
Matt.

i'm pretty sure the barrels are all the same .so you should be able to bung a new one in

hmm, dont suppose anyone knows a part number for the ignition barrel do they? ive been looking all over the web and can only find complete barrel/switch/lock units :(

any tips on how to remove the barrel would also be usefull (ive only been a landy owner for a few months and still learning)

**** its years since i did one. but i think there is a small pin that you need to depress to enable the barrel to come out
if i find time i'll go have a look at mine also i'm sure the barrel was a standard fitting on most brit cars of the 60's and 70's
have you tried paddocks craddocks or maddocks for one

yeah ive found a generic barrel and key on paddocks, but the key looks completely different from my old one (small and metal, as opposed to big with a plastic coated handle)... the only thing i can find that specifically says "series 3 petrol with steering lock" is the complete sets including everything.... no barrel + key sets.

ok.... found the part No. for the barrel. but now i can figure out how to get the barrel out of the steering lock unit. theres what look mto be 2 pins holting it in. would i need to dril them out or something?
