hello again everyone,
just a quick question. If an auto disco 2 is towed with no gearbox fluid is the gearbox going to be nackered? Even if TB in neutral?
thanks for taking the time to read.
AA towed it 13 miles and I can't be sure what was selected in terms of TB but now even after blown pipe is replaced and fluid replaced still no drive and a horrible grinding noise when park is selected. I selected park after the pipe blew and before toeing and it was fine. Whatever the recovery company did, it seems they have done the damage.

If the AA towed you knowing it was an auto ( which they should but you never know) and didn't make sure it was in neutral then they caused the damage and imo are liable for the repair bill. If they towed you with you in the drivers seat and didn't inform you to keep it in neutral then I say the same applies.
I would have expected you to have been put on a wagon really for fear of damage, I mean it's not like they haven't got the resources as its one of the main if not the main thing they do.
Mate of mine had a cooling issue and the recovery driver told him to drive it to the garage which wasn't a good idea and the company had to foot the bill for the damage it caused.

Never assume they know what they are doing. My mum had a Citroen Xantia that needed a tow and because it had that stupid magic carpet hydraulic suspension they had to put the rear wheels in the tow bar and the fronts where rolling on the road. I then asked if he had taken the hand brake off and he looked at me like I was stupid. So I said again slowly hand brake off? Yes or no? No was the reply. So I said better take it off then because they work on the front wheels on a xantia. Stupid French cars!

I always though you had to flatbed an auto due to the pumps not working or was that just the rover SD1? I get so confused these days! I am off to lie in a dark room.

whether it had any fluid or not wouldnt make any difference, box would run dry without engine running ,to tow a d2 you put transfer box in neutral, if box is grabbing its likely a clutch pack is burned
