Has anyone else experienced this problem? I started the landy as usual yesterday evening, put the lights on - - all was fine.
However, after 3-4 minutes driving, I noticed that the lights had gone out. Not being too far from home, I managed to get it back. The dipped beam has completly stopped working!
NOw, I've checked the fuses, checked connections and all appears in order, the side lights work fine, as does Main beam. I have tried a new light switch, but the problem remains. When you do throw the switch, I can hear the relay clicking, so it can't be that? Or cud it?
Has anyone else had the same problem, if so, how did you go about fixing it? I have done a cursory search on the forum, but can't find anything to help.
Appreciate it

Thanks Hollie, it's a 1986 90. I have considered the relay, but dismissed it as you can her it click when the switch is in the position. I take it the dim/dip relay is one of those behind the main fuse board?
Cheers

can't remeber on that age but the later defenders have it behind the instrument cluster if its not there

had mine go on my 1987 90 could'nt get a replacement relay (landrover said they would'nt have them in for 6/7 months:eek: ) so had to have it bypasted the guy that did it put a seperate in line fuses in in behind the fuse board but could'nt say thats where its located
this was a couple of years back now so the might well have some in by now :pound:

just hasd another thought when mine went i could'nt turn off the head lights without pulling the fuses so could be its not that that is gone on yours (with a bit of luck)

Same happened to me after a nights grinlanning, had to drive 12 miles home down back lanes, scary. Whole new switch unit did the job for me had to take it to garage though wouldnt work for me:(

could be the relay - mine failed so i only had dip beam, even though it still clicked. Look behind the fuse panel. Then, any 2 way automovive relay will work

I have the same problem with my little beast. I have been told it cold be a loose wire on the ignition barrel. Take the steering wheel off, then the instrument panel and examine the barrel. If there is a loose wire, solder it back on and 'hey presto' it should work again.
