Hi, I am going to replace my Defender side steps because they look really scruffy now due to rust,
This is caused by the rear wheels throwing water salt etc at them, I have mud flaps at the back of the wheels but I am looking to fit splash guards in front of the rear wheels to stop the new side steps ending up looking just as bad.
Does anyone know if there are any off the shelf mud shields to fit in front of the rear wheels that hang down low enough to stop water splashing the side steps.
Stainless side steps would be great but at £450 far to expensive.

Don't replace them, just clean them up and paint them! :)
I bought some of these LINKY so that I could cut my own. My motivation was to create a mudflap just long enough to protect the front out-riggers. Haven't got around to doing it yet.:rolleyes:
 
I have cleaned treated and repainted them once before but they are very pitted now and very thin in places on the passenger side which I cleaned before taking photo of the drivers side above so decided to buy new ones. Cannot get your link to open.

Get them galvanised. Probably cost about £40 :)
 
Still require splash guard protection from spray to keep the paint on them even after galvanising. Might have to make my own.
I really fancy the stainless steel side steps but I cant part with that amount of money, brings me out in a cold sweat thinking about spending that amount of fun vouchers.

Galvanise them, T wash, skim with filler, rub smooth, paint with this LINKY Get what you want for not much cash :)

Another vote for galvaniseing. There must be somewhere local to you you could get either these or new ones you buy blasted and galved. Then t-wash and paint.

I have not used them so I do not know how effective they are but have seen these fitted to other peoples (link 1) and found these while looking for the first one (link 2). Although neither are cheap so it may be better to look into making your own versions as @Al2O3 is doing.

Another heart attack moment, looks like I will be making my own, my caravan has the sort of small flaps I need so will look for a cheap set and cut them down or find some cheap rubber material.
