Hi All,

After a 120 sovs bill for just resetting my freelander's check engine light so that I can start her up again, I'm looking to reset my own ecu error codes.

Does anyone know what interface box I need to plug it into my laptop? Y reg TD4 (that's the BMW one). I've seen some one eBay, but don't think I can use a OBDII compliant box.

Cheers

Our resident computer expurt:rolleyes: "mad hat man" will make you one up in no time mate;) :D

over to you floppy:p :D

oh and i have a free download for the software you need;) :D

I guessed it was something like one of those fellas of of eBay that are both OBDII AND EODB compliant. I just don't know which one will tell me the score. As there isn't a plug in diag socket under the dashboard, I'm guessing it's in the electrical section on the top right of the engine bay. If it is, I can open it and see which pins are connected to the socket and tell which unit is compatible that way. Anyone want to put me straight?

Cheers fur looking. Somewhere I read it was EOBD compliant, but I haven't looked at where to plug the thing into yet, so I still don't know whare I would even plug the cable into!

Dont know the ECU reader thats needed for the Td4. But the port should be RHS of passenger footwell under centre console.

Try searching under BMW 3series and the Rover75 uses the Td4 engine as well. Some of the guys on MG-Rover.org might point you in the right direction:

Let us know how you get on

Really? even on a Y reg? Post 2001 I imagine it would be somewhere around there, but I'll take a look at lunch time. Ta.

Not sure what year they were used on the 75 but fairly certain it was the Td4 or close derivative of it. Correct me if I'm wrong of course

Thanks, port was where you suggested, in the passenger footwell.

Don't really want to pay 800 odd sovs when I've seen them for £35 on eBay!

The £35 jobbies might just be fault code readers.
If you are going for full diagnostics/software and plan to keep the FL longterm then its a worthwhile investment

Rovacom lite is one of the two versions of diagnostic kit that Blackbox Solutions sell for LR use. The other one is Rovacom Pro.The other 2 most widely used aftermarket ones are Autologic and Auto Diagnos.
Not tried any of the e-bay ones, but I often get called to garages to read and reset codes where often high end diagnostic kit wont talk properly to LR,Rover and MG stuff. My kit is Testbook T1 and T4,by Omitech Ltd,until recently T4 was the official kit for LR and Rover/MG.It works properly with all the models with full manufacturers capability.

Thanks for that comprehensive info Eightinavee!

Are Omitech the only suppliers of T4?

Any contact details and prices of this system?

Reason I ask is that I am avoiding my local dealer as they are bandits. As with all modern cars thats where the DIY mechanics stops at the ECU readings. Very few garages have the T4 diagnostics so it would great to have my own diagnostics, independent of a garage that is going to charge £75 an labour.

Losin me marbles ! Use it all day,5 days a week and spell their name wrong.
Try Omitec : Home They have been very helpful, but like I said they are not cheap, low end - they have some very clever people there.

I use a SYkes Pickavant ACR4 and Rover V4 pod on my 75CDT.

This is the only one that is compatible with the diesels othe than Rovacom and Omitech.

They do a Landrover pod as well. You can often pick them up on Ebay.
The ACR2 will also work - it just has a 2line display so there's a bit more scrolling to do.

The Rover V4 covers all the Rovers petrol and diesel and also does the ABS and SRS on some.

The cheaper 'generic' code readers WILL NOT work on diesels pre 2005/6.
All they will do is display sensor data - rpm, boost pressure etc. They won't display or clear fault codes nor turn off the mil.
