Hi guys...the heater plugs dont apear to be working on my 200 engine....they are not wired through a relay but direct to the S3 diesel heater plug wiring.

Power is getting to them but if I connect a muti tester to the batt indication 12.5v....when I turn the ket to operate the plugs the voltage stays at 12.5v...I would have thought if they where working the batt voltage would drop a bit.

I have taken a plug out...visually it looks ok to me but I have never had any deal;ings with this type of plug before,

If I connect 12 to this plug on the work bench it does get hottish if I leave it connected for around 30secs....if I put a blob of spit on it it doesn't exactly sizzle and very soon goes cold when removed from the 12v batt.

Any ideas guys.

its fecked then just connect it up to a car battery it should go red hot in a few seconds then white hot. simples

No voltage drop = no glow plugs pulling power
As said should heat up very very fast
The cheap sets off of ebay are just fine

Thanks guys...I will order a new set.

I have had a look on ebay...4 for under £10...thats scary....are they really ok...I am temped to go for gen at £40 a set seeing that they fit inside the cylinders.

I didnt word my first post very well what I meant to say was...I had connected up to a 12v batt on the bench and not much happened.

But I'm convinced they are dud after watching this youtube vid.

The cheapo ones I have fitted to both of my 200tdi engines, one was used every day for 4 years with no issues, the other every now and then for 5 years again no issues
The thing is with ebay is you have 60 days to leave feedback, so buy them and fit them then if okay after 6 weeks leave feedback.

With them protruding into the combustion chamber...I just dont want to chance it.

Some of the cheap one are around £2 each...thats scary for a high tolerance part.

Your 200tdi (and 300tdi) will start without glow plugs being activated, straight from cold usually on a quarter of a turn.

:)

.

Thats sort of true but they always start better with glow plugs.
300 have never started as well as the 200 in my experience.

As for the glowplugs if you want to pay 40 quid for 4 plugs thats your decision, but do bear in mind none are probably made in the uk or even the eu for that matter.
