In the middle of a 300 tdi cam bent change ,ive taken everything apart and plan to do the crank and cam seals while im in there

Ive taken the cam pulley off the hub (I now see i didnt need to do this to get the bolt out) ive now read the haynes manual and it says to lock the pulley to the small plate with two short bolts before loosening the three retaining bolts to avoid the valve timing being affected

I cant see why this would be necessary as the pulley can only go on the hub one way as the hub has a notch to stop it turning

Will it be ok ?

Thanks

Im wondering how you got on with this?

Put it all back together sunday and it goes as well as it ever did ,if i have that pulley off in future il just undo the big bolt and leave the three small ones alone
