Hi there,

The reverse lights on my S reg (1998) 1.8 petrol Freelander have stopped working.

After checking both the bulbs and the fuses, it has been suggested to me that it may be the reverse light switch that needs fixing/replacing.

So wanting to check this next, I wonder if anyone could tell me where this switch is located and the best way of getting to it.

Many thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Lee - its on the top of your gearbox and has two wires (green and black IIRC) - a large spanner will undo the unit, however you can unplug the bullet type connectors, join together and test the lights work before buying a new switch.

Thanks for your help guys, I had a spare afternoon and cracked on with it today.

It was a bit of a pain of a job, made more difficult by the water shield being riveted/lack of a trolley jack and the fact that not only was the switch knackered, but also the wire right at the top next to the air box was also screwed so had to be cut and joined in the very tight space next to the air box.

That being said, the job is done now (only 10 months on after I first noticed the reversing lights weren't working) and it only cost me a tenner rather than the £43 for the part and £79 per hour labour (both + VAT), that my local dealer wanted.

Reversing light switch = done
New tail gate handle = done
Fixing dodgy central locking = still waiting, I will no doubt be back soon for advice on this :)

Cheers again
