Hi

Stupid question did they make a series 1 lightweight?
My dad used to have a very old lightweight and he regretfully sold it so i am desperatly trying to find his that i could try to buy and restore for his 60th birthday in 5 years

Just some advice on anywhere i can look to see if his old lightweight is still about

No there was just a short run of 2A (Rover 1), and the Series 3. Production started in 1968 and stoped in 1983.

All he bestfinding the lightweight, do you know ware it could of went to.

they didnt make a series 1 lightweight, it is possibly an early series 2a which would be between 1968 and 1970, good luck

it is with some irony that the ligthweights are actually heavier than a conventional shortwheelbase landy. They become lighter only by taking bits off.

Yes Steamy, that could be why some people prefer to call 'em Airportables. This one definitely wins the award for the most inappropriately named LR :)
Unless, of course, you know better...
(That last bit was said in an Esther Rantzen voice, extra teeth and all that)

sounding a bit anoracky, but, they are called lightweights because even though they are heavier than a civilian landrover they are actually lighter than a full equipped army landrover, hence the name, but as heidi states their official name is air portables ;)
