my headlights work on normal beam but when i try and flick them onto high beam they all go out!? could this be just the bulbs need replacing? at the moment am running just on my side lamps and my wipac driving lamps, so need to get them sorted soon!

what headlights have you got, series landrovers have the old type sealed beams and what you describe it sounds like the main beam as gone in both headlamps it does happen

yeah i think there the sealed unit cos i took the glass headlamps out and there was no way of getting at the bulb..

it does sound like the sealed units have packed up 2 options you have get new units or convert to bulbs but with out doing a test on the high and low beam switch first just to be sure before spending pound notes,

how do you do this test you speak of!? i think my indicator stalk is on the blink anyways, was thinking of gettin a halogen conversion kit too, but need to do that test first.

circuit tester you need, then you need the colour code for the wiring.colour code i can give you if needed.most sealed beams have a 3 pin plug at the back of the unit, 1 is earth, the other 2 are dip and main beam, find the earth wire and earth to the battery, then run a wire from the positve terminal on the battery to the light unit and test them that way, as for the switch a tester would be better, you will have power at the switch , short piece of wire and connect to live terminal then touch each wire in turn, make sure that none of the wires are earth other wise you have sparkys. if stuck email me. jim

sounds like an earth fault to me, i had a beetle where the lights would only work on high (the other way around i know), turned out to be a rusty earth.

I'd suspect the switch first. Try connecting a live straight to the main beam terminal, & see if they come on.
Before that, try the flash position.
