Got a new project today (after not wanting a project!!) 72 lightweight with galvanised coil sprung chassis

It had a 3.5 v8 fitted (now in rear tub after being taken out in 2010) and lt77 box ,after seeing the engine and weighing up the cost of recomisioning it i have decided a 200 tdi conversion would be best

pretty sure a 200 will fit on the existing mounts and should mate up to the lt77 with no mods ? but is there any advantage to fitting an r380 (i plan to buy a cheap disco for all the parts so thats an option but would the mounts need to be changed ? (dont realy want to weld my nicely galved chassis)

Is there any value in the rover 3.5 carb engine and conversion plate also a nato hitch and tidy home made 50mm ball attachment (il take pics) ?

Thanks

nice, think i'll need a sneaky peek at it next time i'm over that way :)

Make me an offer they are for sale as is the nato hitch and front QT radius arms

Looks to be a swivel hitch with home made tow ball job

Not sure on the arms but i bet they werent cheap new (is there any way to find out exactly what they are ?)

Engines complete with carbs ,manifolds ,flywheel ,alternator ,think the starters there ,dizzy

Its a series coil sprung chassis and i know a 200 tdi fits in a standard series chassis (as this one had the v8 and lt77 does that mean it has standard mounts ?)

jebus that's a bit uggo in its current state :D

they are qt cranked radius arms to fix the caster due to the lift, see if they are stamped with a number. new would have been 250ish a pair or you can get em on ebay cheaper.

nice, always fancied a lightweight (s2a, would be my fav) but any would be awesome ;)

72 would that make it a series 3 ?

Had a look round it there and the crappy silver stripes are painted on not transfers so a respray should be easy and i quite like the black

72 could be one or the other I think, 72 was the first year of series 3 iirc

have to agree though that does look like a project :D

good luck with the work

Very much a project but im happy knowing i wont have to weld the chassis ,all its missing is the roof and the rear tailgate ,oh and the engines in the back ! but im guna tdi it anyway

Googled the serial number and its a very early series 3

Pics of the engine for oddwriter ,took the plugs out earlier and it turns over freely

Am i right in thinking the adapter plate will fit all series boxes as well as lt77 and will it fit any others ?

Been a while since i posted anything on this but ive been making steady progress , bulkhead welded (both footwells plus alot of patches in the top panel and dash panel) and bare 300 tdi is in (used it so i could make a remote oil filter / engine mount for RHS) as i decided to fit a 300 and the series chassis mount fouls the oil filter

That will make a nice hybrid. It does remind me that I have loads of LWT body panels to sort and sick on eBay.

It will be worth it when its done but work and weather seem to take priority

Should be ready for summer
