Well tonight i decided to change the lift pump as it didn't do too well on the hills going to Le Mans last week and spent the most of the trip with the accelerator planted to the floor.. (850 mile round trip at 22mpg).

Car's a 1997 manual.

so here goes... took the old one off, but the new one was a little awkward to get back on.. the bar that sticks out was hitting something in the engine so when it was eventually in place, the priming handle didn't do anything at all...

The next issue was the screw above the fuel filter to allow the air out, has been badly screwed in by the previous owner and bodge repaired with what looks like solder, so now when i've take it out, it doesn't seal when putting it back - so when the car starts up fuel goes everywhere - any suggestions on how to fix this ? (i'm guessing new top section part and bleed screw)

Last but not least, once the new lift pump is on and the car's started if i hit the accelerator nothing much happens - it idle's ok though.. Could this be because the fuel is coming out of the the top of the fuel filter, or could it be that the lift pump is wrong?

confused.

thanks

Craig.

when cam is in position to press on pump lever iwont let you manually do it as diaphragm is already pushed up ,you need to turn engine over a bit so its off cam, dont bleed at filter slacken front banjo on injection pump,it wont work with leak properly

either you have fitted the pump on cam stroke and it was pushing lever or somehow got it under cam. secondly cure the leak and see what happens
