you could jam a fiesta in yer bull bars and hopefully the snow will build up in front of the fezzy before the wheels come off!!

ive been down some steep hills today, and towed a fezzy up one, didnt do me no arm!!

you have 8 forward gears (yes i know, before you all start, just keeping it simple) on two of em there are pictures, car going up a hill and car going down a hill.

which one did i use for going down the hill?

I guess we can all work that option out but the question is... just how effective/reliable is it.

Are you able to stop if needed or do you rely on a run off...

Steve

it creeps so slow that i have complete confidence it would stop, thats on wrangler hp's!!

if you have good tyres on your laffin!!!

Thanks GAV,

Tyres are all pretty new -pirelli ST's on front and new Toyo All Terraines on rear. They are all M&S rated so fingers crossed as I have to head off down hill...

I have afew tips,...........
1 close your eyes,
2 press your right foot as hard as you can on the gass to the floor,
3 shout very loud the words ,O ****, :doh::doh::doh::doh::doh::doh::doh:
4 hope to god your rr repair man is not too busy,
5 a healthy bank balance,
6 a very understanding partner, or
JUST TAKE YOUR TIME ,NICE AND SLOW....................
Rob

With all 4 wheels driven, all 4 wheels will break traction if you lift off the throttle as I found to my cost even when going very slow. My previous 4 X 4's were 4wd on demand so RWD normally, a lift of the throttle produced a little fish tail to amuse, nothing worse. So, keep a constant throttle opening if you dont want to slide off the road!

Had a little fright myself friday night going down a steep hill that hadn't been gritted.

Even in 1st low range, it started sliding. The traction control light was flashing like a buggry, but it sorted itself out fairly quickly.

Phew.

Thanks Guy and Datatek; informative comments.

Guy, did you maintain a straight line when the TC was kicking in? The road I have to go down drops away on the passenger side!

I used to have an Audi Quatro - ABS immobilised the brakes on snow and ice - only way I could get down was forwards but in reverse on brake and clutch. Traction was great and kept straight but brakes were non existent. That technique, which never failed me, isnt really an option to me with automatic...

Down hill, on the brakes, on ice is going to be the same in any vehicle, 4wd is no advantage, it's purely a factor of what friction your tires can generate with the ice. So aside from not getting yourself into a dangerous situation by going too fast, use 1st gear low box, if it starts to slide give it a little gas to generate steering control again, once you've straightened up lift off again. don't touch the brakes.

If there is any snow you can push through the ABS to get that wedge of snow going in front of the tires, that is one big advantage of the P38.

If it all goes pear shaped try and get two wheels into the verge where it's more likely to generate stopping power.

God I hate typing on this stupid laptop, Ok, second try...

I'll second that. Had a similar situation this evening - going down a hill in 1st low box and it just started sliding again. I just steered towards the verge and that gave me enough traction to control it - I absolutely had to stop as there were abandoned cars littering the place and I didn't really want to use them to stop. The drivers were standing all over the place too.

Now where's the best place to stand when you're stranded on a very icy hill?

Of course! Let's all stand about IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BLEEDING ROAD!

I was impressed that I still had directional control, I just couldn't stop! Would have been fine without the slalom course.
