Welcome to landyzone regular users of snuff and port.
As for converting left to right the problem you will face is cost time and is the vehicle structure sound and lots of money. A donor right hand drive vehicle that's on it last legs would help. As cost of parts and manual needs to be added. Once converted tax insurance and any relevant information about your changes would classify as modifications.

Welcome to LZ!

From memory, there is someone on the forum that has imported one from Spain.

As regards the conversion, I wouldn't bother. Quite a lot of trouble and expense, for little gain.
I have driven LHD in the UK, it isn't a big problem.
The most difficult thing is pulling out to overtake, and you won't be doing much of that in a Series.

thanks
wil a modification loose the tax exempt status????????
the spanish land rovers are compared to uk free of rust due to the weather in southern spain
so you get quite a good car cheap compared to uk cars

Plenty of Series in the UK are now on new galvanised chassis. Probably cheaper than the import costs, added to the cost of a vehicle in Spain.
And no need to convert it either.

Some years ago I helped a mate convert from right to left for export to an African country [ He drove it there ] It was a series 2a so the dash needed no work being in the middle. Even so it was a lot of work and finding the parts required took time as not many scrap LHD's in UK.
I have driven LHD cars and I felt fine [ Used to right hand gear shifts/handbrakes ect as most tractors are that way. ] However I did drive his now LHD Land Rover around some before it left for The Gabon [ made it all the way ] For me it felt all wrong.

As you have to alter the front crossmember to fit the steering relay it will not be an easy job...if like here in Portugal secondhand S3 are eyewatering prices it would make not cost effective...

they are around 4 to 5000 euro in good reasonable state

Plus import duty+vat+registration+transport+hassle + probably more. (I dont know the rules now as the B thing has made a real mess of things)

Parts to go from LHD to RHD are going to be easier to get, the only plus point if the chassis will take it;).

Check out all those costs, and a new galvy chassis on a UK bought 1 could add up as a better way to own a good 1;).

Got any links of what you are looking at?

Some parts. Not exactly sure what vehicle OP is looking for, but I find Series 2a steering boxes are hard to find now.
Most have been reconned several times, and often in not the best possible way.
I think Series 3 steering boxes are the same as late 2a, but not certain.

EDIT. Now had a look at his first post, and he is after a Series 3.

I think now you will have to pay duty on it when you bring it in, but might be exempted because of age, are you going to drive it back, it is a long way for a old land rover that you do not know what is wrong with it, Transport will be a arm and a leg, can you get insurance on it if it is not registered in your name? I think you need a residence permit to buy a car in Spain, If you go all that way to buy it what if it turns out to be a pile of ****? or the guy sold to to someone yesterday? how are you going to pay for it? in France you can only pay up to 1000€ in cash do not know what rules are in Spain not trying to put you off but you need to know all the answers to all the questions and a lot more, good luck if you decided to go for it, I would leave it LHD , I drive a RHD van here and really not a big problem, or less of a problem than changing it

You will have to have it in your name to import it and fill in a NOVA form not sure how long has to be in your name...you cant do it in Portugal as you need a NIF number to change ownership which has to be done or PO will still be charged road tax...

I had the idea of buying a Spanish car as they are cheaper than here in France, it is about 4 hours here down to Spain (plus the distance the car is from border) if I saved €2000 think by the time I sorted it out it would be cheaper to buy it here
