As in, I'm on a steep one:)

Afternoon all..

I've just taken possession of a '72 Series III that has been off the road for a few years.

1. Learning point one- always measure the height of your garage before buying a car!!

No doubt many more to follow.

I'm currently trying to trace some faults in the electrics (surprise)- no flashing on the indicators (hoping this is just a flasher unit); no main beam- so far I'm thinking there's a short somewhere. Other exciting taks lying ahead include some welding...

Does anyone have a ball park figure for how much welding a new front dum iron should cost? Also, poking around underneath, I found a 2cm diameter hole on the outrigger- will need doing one day but any thoughts on whether this is a MOT fail?

Oil leaks not too bad at the moment (although possibly there is just no oil left!!)

Thanks in advance for tolerating all of my future daft questions

Phil

Hi and welcome, any welding will need doing of it affects the stuctural strength or if it is within 300mm of any mounting point or seat belt mounts or braking componets eg brake master cylinder and suchlike, there is plenty of help on here just be ready for a bit of **** taking now and again ok :)

Best way to fix the chassis is to purchase a Mig welder of 160Amps or more and get in about it. You will also require an angle grinder and some shet metal for patching. Oil leaks? You said it, its obviously run out of oil if you've none. Good luck and photos are welcome.

Point taken:)...

At the moment it is a selection of loosely connected wires and bits of ally strapped to a chassis that looks like it was raised from the hold of the Titanic.
