Hi Guys n Gals,
I need some advice. I have a leaky 200tdi in my disco. It looks to me as if the water leak is behind the alternator. I think from reading the posts its the P gasket.
But
I took it to my local garage/mechanics who are good and cheap but they say they can't do the job
They tell me the leak is in a gasket that is behind the diesel pump, behind the timing belt, so the 'whole front' has to come off and apart from them not having the 'right tools' and they tell me that putting the diesel pump back on requires it to be reset up and to do all that the work would cost between £400/£500!!
So from these bare insights does anyone have any ideas, and/or any suggestions re mechanics in the Plymouth area that could do it and not bankrupt me at the same time.
(Another mechanic who looked at it briefly said it was an easy job - that's whats confusing me)
Thanks very much
Rob
Hi
Got a second opinion this morning on my leak. Mechanic said the same - all the front has to come off all the belts, timing belt etc, so just for that 4 hours work quoted in excess of £300 so possibly looking at £400 - £500 for that. Thats way out of my comfort zone and big money for a repair on such an old vehicle.
So went for the cheaper option KWeld at £8 from the motor factors, the leak seems to have stopped.
Hey ho
Fun!
