Hello
I have a lot of fluid leaking out of the bottom of a 6 nut steering box, fitted to my 1990 defender 90.
Local garage says changing gaskets are a waste of time.
Anyone had similar/same problems??
If so advice please ???
Thanks all

Not being picky but I thought steering boxes were either 3 or 4 bolt not 6, just so you get the right one

6 bolt box were light weight boxes fitted to defenders, they can be replaced by the stronger 4 bolt without any modifications, as for the bottom seal if after the old seals removed shaft is badly scored new seal wont last too long but if shafts godd new seal is a long term fix

Apparently putting a bit of brake fluid into the reservoir swells the seals to stop it leaking? Mine had a severe leak so it didnt work. But its only a temporary measure anyways.

Thanks guys,
Any recommendations for where I can go/take her in for repair ??
Live in Northants if that helps

There's a guy on eBay with good reviews doing exchange units, but if you're looking for someone to remove and refit suspect a good Indy garage would be best

Sorry can't advise who, but will find eBay link if needed
