Hi All - has anyone fitted the really large wing mounted mirrors as a replacement on a series 2 or 2A. I'm talking about the 10" x 7" size. If anyone has tried them can you say whether they improve visibility and if they look OK or do they look just too big?!
Cheers

I haven't got the big ones but I can tell you, wing mirrors are a pain in the proverbial. It seems impossible for a young person to walk past my landy when it's parked, to not knock the mirrors out of alignment. Also potholes cause them to move. Maybe I've just got cheap ones, I only fitted them because there were holes in the wings for them and I don't like looking at holes. Defender style door mirrors are much better.

I haven't tried them on a 2a. I had some on a 101 but they were mounted on the door hinge and worked great. Personally I think I they'd look too big on a Series. That said they would aid rear visibility, safety has to come before asthetics. Door mounted wing mirror s are far better (imho) but you'll struggle to fit those on series 2a hinges. You can buy hinges to mount mirrors to, they were originally used on 109 2a and 110 2b forward controls. They are hard to find and if you do, expensive.

I always found wing mirrors on a Series were a complete waste of time, they vibrate far too much to be able to see anything.
Door mirror is marginally better, and can be adjusted from the drivers seat, but an interior mirror and turning your head works fine as well.

Never had a problem with wrong mirrors on mine, but then it's got a proper engine in it, not a silly rattly diseasel :p

I have door mirrors and one OS wing mirror that flips out for towing. Door mirrors are 10x more use than the wing mirror,

I use the 90/110 type....good size....not to big....good convex coverage....fit on the top door hinge.....will fit on std hinge with a bit of fettling with a file.....never go out of adjustment.
IMHO....fitting bigger than req mirrors cause a big blind spot in your 45deg forward vision.

On my 2a I had an angle bracket that was fitted to the windscreen pivot bolt, a middle sized mirror there was firm and was very handy when towing, just as good as a Defender mirror

Thanks for the comments/advice. More or less all what I was already thinking myself.
Good to see pics of the drilled top hinges as I'd never actually seen one - but the price of the new ones is unbelievable!!
I thought the obvious place to mount door mirror was off the windscreen pivot bolt so I might try that.
Only just got this series 2 in lockdown so not been out much to see what visibility is like
Cheers.

I’ve got the wrong type of hinges to hand def mirrors off, so have gone back to the original wing mounted jobs, had some big rectangular mirrors on, but they were worse thn useless. Have ordered original wee round ones. Had them on my first series in 1978 and as far as I recall they were fine.

My S2A has the hinges with the holes but the mirrors are on brackets to the hinge bolts. They are available if I can find the part number but more importantly they look easy to make.
