My LR Defender is a 2005 Td5 CSW. Its done about 61,000 miles from new (no previous owner). Its been off the road for some time and at present is being made roadworthy at a LR workshop here in Germany.
The engine couldnt be started (taken on recovery vehicle to workshop) and the mechanic eventually discovered the alternator was kaputt (second-hand replacement has been fitted). Ive just been told that the crankshaft damper pulley needs replacing. Im a little puzzled because the last time I drove my vehicle (November 2012), the cd pulley was OK, as far as Im aware. (From November, the vehicle was parked, right through the winter. I started it from time to time but didnt drive it. Yes, I know now that was wrong, but didnt know at the time.)
So my question is, why would/might the crankshaft damper pulley stop working now (and at what seems to me to be a relatively young age)?
Thanks.
