I have a 1959 series 2, the engine in it is a 2.25 diesel, I'm trying to find out if this is the original engine as im not sure if they put that engine in for that year, can anyone shed any light on this?

it would have had a 2 litre diesel or 2.25 petrol, a lot were swapped over to 2.25 as engines wore which is what we did with our 58 in the 1970s
 
There will also be a number on the engine - this will identify it. If you get some heritage info from LR it will tell you which engine was fitted at the factory for your chassis.
 
There were definitely not the best of engines...but I got 200.000miles out of my 2.25d...with a full re-build at 100.000ml...poultry by todays stds.
 
No. the land rover heater works if you supply it with a good flow of hot water from the block.
I posted an article late last year on installing a small secondary 12 volt pump which increased the flow to the heater and, remarkably , cured over heating problems.
And, the heater works!

The LR 2 and 2 1/4 diesels were ground braking in their day and got coped by the Japs who prompty sorted the problems.
Re heater I agree if it gets hot water its fine, my Perkins pushes out a decent flow and the heater is good. The fan is very noise (its a flat square S2A heater) and I think I may try to fit a more modern fan motor. For the amount of current it draws it doesn't move a lot of air. I have a taxi heater in the rear and that get enough flow even on 5ft of pipe. You can always get them off e-bay, I recon its the cheapest rear heat solution.
