Hi I'm after some advice about my Land Rover Disco 3 54 plate. I recently had a garage re-programme the car with a newer programme. I started getting not bad mpg (28-30)for a Land Rover so all was good. Until I went on holiday with it and the the mpg dropped to 16-17mpg. I have since taken the car back to the garage and they are saying I've had a bad batch of fuel thats knackered the fuel pump which has then damaged the fuel injectors. They have said they can fix it but it will cost £6000.00 to fix.
I have been in touch with the petrol station I always use and they haven't had any complaints about bad fuel but told me to get a report from the garage and they would look into it.
Problem is when I spoke to the garage for a report they said they don't do reports like that and actually they are not sure if the fuel has caused the problems.
The car is now running ok for now but they said eventually it will just stop working.
Does this seem a right price to fix the car , it seems pretty high to me. Don't want to get rid of the car but can't really justify paying £6000.00 get it fixed.

To be honest pal how can the garage say that its a bad batch of fuel, when there back is against the wall and you ask for a report then to be told that they can't say for sure its that, sounds as if they don't know the true problem. Some places will throw all sorts of sensors and switches at it in the hope that one will fix it. Could you not take it else where for a second look, and maybe get them to do a report on the problem. Am i right in thinking that these engines have two drive belts, one for engine timing, and the other for injector pump timing, maybe something else to think about. I'm just guessing here as i don't own a disco 3

They do have two belts, obviously the timing belt is timed but the injection pump belt isn't,it just drives the high pressure pump
