Upgraded to a defender 90 from my landrover 90 and have been doing some bits n bobs to make it look gleeming again and put my mark on it.

I’ve attatched some pictures and will update when I can on it’s progress.

Work planned is:

Exterior
- Upgrade grill and light surrounds
-Repaint rear, side panels and inside tub
-Upgrade to wolf doors with series bottoms
- Repaint roof
- Recondition alloys
- Fully treat chassis and underseal

Interior
- New sound system
- Insulate
- Fit new carpets
- Upgrade roof lining
- Tint windows
- New steering wheel
- RX8 heated seats
- Reupholster cubby seat

Looking for a heads up on where to find something to cover up where my horn is and the hole on other side of possible as I’m changing to a series inspired front end

Not quite like that just really not a fan of the cheap plastics, I’ve purchased series headlight surrounds and a new metal grill they are going to be painted a satin black matching the roof and Bonnet scoops that I’m buying for it.

I’ve decided to get something laser cut to fit the hole as I want it to look the business when it’s done.

Small update I’ve had chance to strip the old rubber matting and have now laid sound deadening insulation, it’s a little costly but even without new carpeting it feels and sounds a lot quieter in the cab.

Five weeks turn around for exmoor trim with carpets, has anyone got any other recommendations before I purchase these?

nice motor. Will be watching this. What did you use sound deadening wise?

I used a product called bitflex, after doing some research it’s what the fiat group use and was just less than half the price of the dynamat which I can the put towards the carpet it was the cheapest like for like product that I could find
 
I’ve just had chance to get some photos of the finished paint it still needs mopping but not a bad job for a DIY spray job out of cans, I’ve painted the whole tub inside and out I’ll try get some more pictures of the whole truck when the new doors have been painted and fitted.

I used 120 grit and a wire brush to get off the rust treated it with alcohol when cleaning, then used 400, 600 and finally 1200 grit to get a suitable finish, I sanded down between sets of primer but didn’t for the base coat as it’s a solid colour. Just did small coats about twenty mins apart on all aerosols thanks for the weather, and the colour has built up nice with no imperfections.

Wow you go some to do all that. Impressed! Was it not a bit hot for painting this weekend just gone?

I essentially did most of the work on evenings last week but for the paint I sprayed in the shade then moved the motor into the sun for it to bake, it meant that it dried out thoroughly, when applying the lacquer I did that when it was still a little tacky to ensure good adherence in shade between coats then for the final coat left it out again in the sun to bake.

Considering I did it outside it’s turned out exceptionally well glad we had no winds so there isn’t any insects dust or weeds in the paintwork.
In an ideal world I’d have the correct equipment and somewhere well ventilated and internal to do it but this was the next best thing to paying silly prices for some body shop to do it for me.
With it being a solid colour I found it easy to apply and fade into pre existing paintwork.

Thanks for kind comments boys, just a quick update I’ve had chance to update the speakers today, pretty simple and quick job but well worth it, still think the truck would benefit from some kind of sub but we will see when the new carpets are fitted.
 
Know I’ve been slacking in the upload department just been under a lot of pressure and there has a lot of waiting around for deliveries, still waiting on a lot.

I’ve managed to swap my doors so I now have series style doors and have attached the wolf tops with some grit and determination.
The tops proved a task because the supporting pin snapped so I have had to take apart the whole top re drill and thread the bolt post and attatch a new one, seal it and rivet it back up. It’s been hard work getting aftermarket series doors to fit the defender. Lots of adjments have had to be made to get the strikers to align properly to the latches and keep the doors in line with the bodywork.

The doors have been upgraded so the handles are in the doors as opposed to the cheap looking plastic ones, I love the wolf tops and I’m considering converting it with a roll cage and soft top in the future.

Mind my old man checking out the wolf top haha, he’s as much of a landrover perv as me.

It’s been a few weeks because I’ve been waiting on parts to arrive from craddocks.

Today I’ve had chance to fit some 30mm spacers and get around to installing the exmoor trim carpets. The carpets are good quality, but there’s has been a few issues. I think exmoor have tried saving some cash in production in a few areas so had to cut up the spare to make up for their shortcomings. They could have punched the holes for bonnet pull bolts, fitment around the accelerator was dodgy until I cut it up, gearbox tunnel too short etc. On top of waiting 3 1/2 months for delivery I’m not too impressed.

That being said they do look the dogs dangalies!

Had chance to rip out the headlining today and give it a pampering I’ve decided to spray it black so giving it a few coats over the next couple of days so it’s a lovely clean finish.
Post more pics once it’s done!
