sorry in advance if this post upsets the die hards lol. At the moment I have a Landrover 90 with a ailing 19j engine, I have been looking at other engine options available 200-300tdi.
My situation is I have been offered the chance of a Cummins R2.8 crate engine.
My question is, has anyone done this conversion, and if so could you point me in the right direction of people who have done this conversion?

Personally, I would put a V8 and autobox in it, but if you want to fit a Cummins, that is fine.
There are several threads on the forum about fitting a Cummins, I can't remember which engine it was.
Search for aaronmorris, a member on the forum, and look on his page at the threads he posted about the Cummins engine project.

sorry I have dyslectic fingers and pressed the wrong tab, thanks for the reply I like the sound of the V8 option, but have the chance of this Cummins at a very good price. It’s a new engine that’s why I’m struggling finding info, a few American sites have a bit of info but not a full conversion, I’ll look where you suggested, once again thanks
 
Depending on the power output of the Cummins you have, dont forget its not just the engine & box.

Brakes, drive shafts, drive flanges, CV joints, TXbox, diffs and potentially drive shafts!

Make sure it remains 4wd!

Definetly remaining 4wd, the r2.8 is designed for the repower market, that’s what they call it in the US, basically it’s designed to drop straight into, sorry for swearing Jeeps, but it seems people are also putting them in landrovers so there shouldn’t be as much torque as the truck engines people are using.

OK. So that sounds like a much simpler project than what aaron was doing. His was a massive great truck engine.
Your main issue is sourcing a conversion plate, to mate the engine to the landrover tranmission.
The rest is just cables, hoses and wires.
Take it you have googled conversion plates for landrover, and similar things?

Yes had a look round for adaptor plates but only a quick one as I hadn’t had confirmation about the engine now the search is on lol
 
Its a very nice compact engine, but 267 lbft from 1500 rpm could do a lot of damage.

Autobox and stronger halfshafts might help, but that is a lot of torque for a landrover transmission
Partly why I suggested the V8, bit less power, and they were fitted in a few Nineties as standard.
 
I note it has an obd port, dont take it for gospel that the generic obd code reader will work as we have ISB cummins at work in tugs and when we have aftertreatment issues its a battle of wits between the cummins guy and the tug maker as to whats actually at fault!
Tug maker cannnot talk to cummins engine and the cummins guys cannot talk to the tug, I know its madness.

I note its common rail as well, very nice, but if you ever have issues it wont be a cheap fix
 
It looks like a very nice engine - its small but 161 hp and 247 lb ft is a lot. Its a pity they don't do a 2 ltr. I run a Perkins 4203 in my series - 147 lb ft at under 2000 rpm and I have to be careful on the transmission. Its not the torque alone but its only 4 cylinders so its jerky. I think that's why the V8s are ok, smoother delivery. I suspect most of those Cummins are going on autoboxes.
