Hello, I daily a series and have been having a knocking problem for a few months now and can't seem to find the problem. The noise it the worst when cold and it vibrates the gearstick and make a very quick knocking when driving and is only really there when uphill and in 3rd or 4th. I have replaced the whole ignition system and timed the car to tdc which is factory spec for a 1979 3 main bearing peteol. Please could I have some advice on what else could be causing it thanks

Sounds like the timing is off to me. 3 bearing is the earlier type
I thought static timing was 6 before tdc for 4 star leaded petrol?

In that case i would go back to basics. Check tdc is really tdc, check the distributor is working properly with the points gap correct. Check #1 is to #1 cylinder

Okay I did just today install a new electronic ignition system from accuspark to try and reduce or get rid of the noise but did nothing. But I will try and see if the mark is truly tdc ect.
