My land rover series 3 builds up to 1/2 on temp whilst moving and stays there until standing in traffic , it then gradually works its way up to 3/4 but never hits the red , when I get moving again it goes to back to 1/2 way . Is this overheating ? . I've taken the radiator cap off after this happening and it's not erupting or bubbling , if I could get the temp sensor off and change it I would but its stuck soild. Ive tried bleeding and all seems ok . Should I be concerned?

sounds normal, as long as it doesnt over heat ,you can improve it if cooling system is in good order ie thermostat opens fully and rad gets hot all over by restricting the bypass port, later 2.5s had this as std but a plate was available for series working in hot conditions

Its only happened twice with Henry but both times I knew before any damage occurred coz of the smell. I rely on this more than the gauges. If it dont smell like its overheating it probably isnt.

My Blue safari 109 runs permanently in the red, it is hot but doesn't boil- I reckon the replacement water pump I fitted isn't doing its job. My Black one also runs in the red- why?.....

Don't think I have ever had or seen a temp gauge on a series work properly, could have the wrong or a faulty sender fitted saying its hot when it isn't if you know what I mean, hope you sort it

Is the fuel gauge reliable? If not try changing the voltage regulator behind the clocks. Backflush the rad, check the thermostat is opening..

Mine used to do that until I put in new radiator and hose set. Now runs steady at halfway. Problem doesn't look serious.
