I'm looking for a suitable bottle jack to lift my Defender for wheel changing etc. There are lots around varying from £15'ish up to over £100 for the genuine Land Rover job. Is it really worth shelling out so much for the LR one, or does anyone have any recommendations? Looking for something robust and preferably not made in a far eastern sweat shop!

I boiught a disco one the other day for 10 pounds and 8 pounds delivery, upon delivery it was mint with no scratchs on the bottom so had never been used, better than cheapo jack as they are two stage so lift nice and hign and unlike the cheap ones have a decent sized base and a nice little u shaped top bit to sit under the axle.

The only trouble about a bottle jack is that if they remain tucked away unused year in year out the seals can go hard so when you try to lift the vehicle you find you are pumping but not getting anywhere! If you only have the one jack then chances are you will use it regularly but if (like many of us I expect) you have a trolly jack (or two) in the garage the vehicle jack never gets a look in (when I last looked at mine I hadn't used it for 8-years).
The good old LR screw-jack that came with the earlier 90/110's is my preferred bit of kit as they are 100% reliable with no seals to fail or fluid to leak. I recall JC was selling some new/old stock a while back and they weren't expensive at all.
