Hi all - hoping that someone can help me with a diagram of the components in the parking brake drum connected to the rear propshaft.

I made the mistake of not taking a photo before taking it apart to replace the shoes and the shoe holders dropped out on both sides. I think I must have put it back together incorrectly because the handbrake is pulling up vertically and not working?

(Also is it easy to adjust the handbrake cable - looks difficult to access?!)

A common mistake is with reassembly of the brake expander, putting back the pistons the wrong way around so the rollers no longer push them out.

Thanks for this - Trying to visualise what you mean. is that the two wedge shape bits? The longer bit of the wedge is currently facing the rear of the vehicle

You got it, the wider end of piston/wedge should be forward. When rod is pulled the taper on it rolls the rollers against the piston's expanding it.
TIP, when I reassemble one I put a little elastic band around to prevent the parts coming out while other assembly happening. It is just left there after, no need to remove band .

That was the problem in the end - I had put the lower one, the wrong way around!
You aren't the first and you wont be the last. friend had an issue with his where he had put it back in the correct way around but had not noticed the roller had also dropped out!

I may have celebrated too early - with all the adjustments set correctly - the vehicle still rolls forward on a steep hill!
Handbrake is on max on 3 clicks - wondering if there is a roller that has dropped out? Does anyone have a picture of this part? Can it be ordered separately

You have to purchase a complete expander unit id you have lost roller.
Do you have the type where the cable goes to a lever on the side that then pulls the expander or the type where cable goes direct into the back plate?

Thanks for the link - I can only see reference to drums connected to the wheels but my drum is a single one connected to the propshaft
My link goes straight to a transmission brake. Two other options depending on year and brake operation type, cable or rod.

What year of landrover do upu have ?
There are two types of handbrake/transmission brake.
Post a picture is the bestest way ...

It's the old type with one shoe at the top and one at the bottom.
One of the small rollers was missing and as the components were quite worn I purchased a new expander unit for £42 (Part number AEU2734 if anyone else needs to know from this post)
