Right!
Had a new engine fitted by a friend in his garage after a little incident in a deep ford

After rebuilt Engine fitted, it pressurised the system within 2 mins, traced it to to whoever built the engine must have used an old head gasket as there was a BIG bit missing between 2cyls and water jacket!!!

So swapped the head for my old one which had been overhauled ,new injectors etc and was running well before and surprisingly well after taking a big drink!!
Ran much better no overhearing - until about 60-70 mph - traced to a blocked with clay radiator!!! Replaced that

Engine is very quiet now but lacks ooommph and has a starting issue and drops oil pressure when hot

Cold start it used to fire after 1/4 turn now takes 4-5 turns then runs a bit lumpy, bit of white smoke, give it a rev to clear the lumpiness and then ok
The pump timing was set about 6 degrees advanced on old engine and apparently been set the same on this ( all parts swapped over)

Now I'm wondering if valve clearances too tight AND perhaps the pump is set retarded ???will this cause the start issue and the lack of oomph??

Also when driving you have to give it plenty right foot to keep speed up around 60-70 ,boost around 1 bar, , seems to use a bit more fuel than before and after few miles at speed the oil pressure drops to about 5lb and light flickers at idle!!!

I've changed the oil to some decent 10/40 after running in about 500 miles on cheaply oil ( had rebuilt bottom end too)

50lb press at cold idle
25/30 lb warm idle
5-10lb hot idle

Wondering if the shells are bad ( maybe if he used and head gasket he used old shells??) worried!!!

Right Fed up with landy at moment!!!

are you sure it was rebuilt ,sounds like it needs a proper rebuild, bores and rings, cam bearings, oil pump, oil squirts ,crank checking etc

Guy I got it from was told it was rebuilt when he got it, also when put into my truck the sump was changed and he did say it was all clean and looked new etc

but if he bodged it using old headgasket, he won't have bothered to do anything else right..........

That's my worry, because I've bought and fitted the engine , if it's a bodge job , I'm not spending anymore on it and will sell the truck, but if it's just not set up properly then it might be an easy fix

why not overhaul the bottom end you removed from vehicle, put your head back on it, jobs good, and you know whats been done to it.
