Right,
So after putting my landy back together I come to drive it and give it a good run and it won't drive out of my drive way.
The best way I can describe it is it feels like i am trying to pull away in 3rd or 4th in a normal car. It seems to have a little more power if I am in low range but it still wont pull away. It rolls fine so isn't a brake issue.
I've not touched the engine, gearbox or transfer box during the rebuild and it drove before hand. Its been laid up for a year however in that time I have gone for short drives but nothing significant has been done between the last little run and this one. So I am stumped...!

Any ideas?

It is a 1987 19j engine.
Has had a new turbo

Has something seized or rusted since it was last out? I've occasionally had symptoms like this when the brake shoes have rusted to the drum or the pads to the disc. They usually come off eventually (sometimes you can hear a bang or a twang as they do so). Does the engine rev freely in neutral?
 
Brakes are fine since it rolls easily when turned on in neutral. When reving it, it takes longer than expected to respond but other than that it does seem fine.
When revving it hard, it is very very blue/blacky smokey - Over fueling or a deeper set problem?
If I take the air intake pipe off, it doesn't change anything, still lacks power.

I have changed the turbo for some after market replica but have driven it with it on so don't think its that
 
Haven't you got the locking tools? It would be easier with them.

Are they the ones refereed to in the overhaul manual as LST 107 AND 18G 1456?
Is there a hillbilly replacement that's easy to make up or will it be best to source the proper ones?

ahah ah fak!

Changed the timing belt by lining the marks up but now i've read its a lot more complicated than just doing that. ahaha bollocks!

So chances are, i have knackered the valves and push rods? anything else?
 
You might have gotten away with not bending any thing, as you have said it runs.

Okay lets hope. So do you suggest I redo the timing belt this time with pins, put it back together and see if it runs properly or do you suggest checking the push rods etc at the same time?
And will checking the push rods involve taking the head off?

Take the timing cover off and set the engine by the marks in the timing chest. I'm guessing the injector pump has jumped backwards when you took the belt off. So find the marks and set the engine and see how far out they are and go from there.

Okay great thanks. And will drill bits be okay to use instead of the tools?
 
I don't know. I use a kit that I bought of ebay. I've just looked at the haynes manual and there are some helpful picture in it. Haven't you got a manual?
 
Once you are happy the timing is sorted make sure the turbo wastegate is not sticking open and the turbo hoses are good and tight.

Alternatively swap your engine for a nice modern TD5 ;)
