A mate dropped off an 06 TD5 110 last week with a suspected noisy rear wheel bearing,60,000m owned from new.It actually needs a new rear diff.Third one I have done in 6 months on Defenders less than 5yrs old.
he drove away in another of his fleet,a 57 plate VW Transporter, again owned from new,57,000m - properly cared for and driven. When he reversed around to exit the yard the LH outer CV joint made a very loud clicking - clearly on its way out.
What happened to VW / German quality ? All the local garages are full of stories of low mileage failures.....
Seems to me the bean counters are cutting back on component quality and trading on brand loyalty.
The Ag boys are telling me the same story with tractors playing up all over the place and the manufacturers letting the farmers do the development work going round the fields.
****es me off,esp when you know that they know how to make it work well - and how to make it last.Rusty bodywork should be a thing of the past, engines we know can do 250-300,000m along with gearboxes and final drives. Not very green is it ?
