Hello!

I'm about to take a bit of a risk, I've seen a 2004 Range Rover Vogue SE TD6 advertised in my area for £1100, being sold as spares or repair as the gearbox won't shift higher than 3rd gear. It drives fine and shifts up and down normally, but won't go higher than 3rd.

The owner has owned the car for 10 years and has put 200k on it, so it's well used! He has no idea what the fault is and has no interest in having it checked out.

I understand gearbox issues are common on these, but haven't managed to find a fault where the gearbox will only shift so high. Does anyone have any history of this fault or any tips? I know it could be one of those occasions where the gearbox is on its last legs.

Many Thanks,

Steve.

Have a read.

Rebuilding the gearbox could be the only way.....

Before buying please remember there is no such thing as a cheap/bargain 'because it's broken' L322.

There is another thread running with the same sort of problem. The GM gearbox is pretty poor, an exchange re-con box is going to cost you £2/3K.
If you are going to do it, offer £700.
Don't forget they suffer many electronic problems too.
