2002 L322 3.0 tdi
It's not engaging low speed and hasn't ever done since I bought her, so I'm starting to investigate. I think it's a ZF unit.
IID diagnostics doesn't show anything so I'm starting with the hi / low switch, which seems to work ok.
But it looks like there's something broken off the back of the board cover (where my screwdriver is pointing).
Anyone got any idea what's missing and if it's relevant to the fault?
Also, the only LED that lights is the one for hill descent, but I don't see the others (drive select or sport mode) on the wiring diagram

So is there a plug missing or something broke.
From a module dated 2003 on a car registered 2002:confused:.

I don’t know just pointing out the obvious:eek::D.

Here's a screenshot of one on ebay. I just can't make out what the missing bit is. I don't think it's a plug.
I'm guessing that someone has previously tackled the problem and replaced the module and then

BTW, the pink edged paper in the files on the lhs of my earlier photos are the manuals

That explains what's missing - which is a clip for holding the "loose" connector, so that's not a worry.
These guys do seem to know what they're doing. I've watched a couple of their videos.
On this video, he says that an older switch unit (254) can't be used in a newer car in place of a 255.
On the assumption that someone has already replaced mine, how can I check that the correct one is fitted to my car?

I'm impresed, how do you know I have a GM 5L40-E transmission and a New Venture Gear NV225 transfer case.?
 
The 3.0 litre diesels were fitted with the infamous GM transmission. This changed to the ZF 6HP26X unit when the engine was replaced with the 3.6 TDV8 for 2007MY.
All 5-speed transmission cars had the NV225 transfer box. This was replaced with the Magna Steyr DD295 unit when the 6-speed transmissions were introduced. The DD295 was also used for 8-speed models.
