Having recently had the oil cooler and thermostat and housing changed, I now find the passenger side heating works as it should; the driver's side heating is hit and miss. I initially mentioned this in another post as just the driver's side footwell heater not working, but this is an intermittent fault. Sometime it blows hot, sometimes it doesn't, but not only the foot well heater, but the face and screen level heat.

Yesterday evening we had an evening jaunt to Margate, passenger side heating was fine, drivers side was cold. when we came back, both sides worked for a short while then the drivers side went cold. I've tried all combinations, wiggling the temperature control knobs back and forth in case the switches are the problem. I'm wondering if it may be the driver's side thermostat if there's one fitted. The air seems to blow out, but cold, not warm or hot most of the time, so it's unlikely to be flaps that may diver the air. The difference is very noticeable on the vent over the raio where there's passenger and drivers vents next to each other.

The other problem seems to be trying to work out how the pre-set Webasto works! This is the cheapo car that for the price I paid isn't proving too bad just yet, just under £1k to change the oil cooler and other associated bits so far...

Sounds like a blend motor problem.

Heater control valve takes 20 mins to swop out if your having tea at the same time. The hoses are very bendy and you can pull them a fair way out for better access.

Any clue as to where it hides on the car? all i see under the bonnet is a mass of pipes, totally lost with modern vehicles!

As your looking at the engine bay from the front of the car it's deep down on the right hand side bulk head. You lose a bit of coolant when you swop it out but it's not a drama

Thanks, do I have to remove the engine cover to try to find it? By right hand side, I presume you mean under the passenger side on a RHD car?

So many variants, presumably i'll have to order by VIN number? My car is the "facelift" version on a 60 plate.

Oh, OK, 2 valves. I wonder why they went back to valves instead or using a full flow heater matrix and blend flaps?
Yeah back to 2 valves 1 hot water in 2 out there positively energised so always open and close as the temp control is turned down and fully closed on cold setting.
They fail often think iv done mine twice the rubber seals break down.

Heaters in 1960s cars? You having a laugh?? My 1948 P3 hd one come to think of it and a curtain that dropped down inside the back window. My Rover 2000 had a heater as well, all mod-cons. I'll look on youtube, cheers.

Otherwise Ranco valves on 1960s buses.
