Having L series troubles, its a 98 3dr with 88000 on the clock.

The main problem is that it has a red engine warning light on all the time and has no power. After speaking to landrover, was told that there is limited diagnostics on this age of vechile and it was a process of elimination to solve the problem, as was most likely a sensor.

Have cleaned the turbo sensors to no avail, after finding six months ago that the pipes were lagged in oil. Now not really sure where to start, has a new fuel filter.

The old girl still drives fine, shes just a bit slow, but otherwise everything is O.K. starts fine everyting.

Would anyone be able to offer some advice

Cheers

Johnny

As a suggestion No1 injector lead is worth a look at mate, check fuel pump looms.
Sounds like its gone into limp mode as a safety.
Get it plugged in somewhere and hopefully it will give you some fault codes to go on.

Have you got RAVE?

RAVE is the uber haynes manual if you like, the font of all knowledge straight form the manufacturer, details on how to download it are on the forum.

I have just had a quick look and some thing that will bring on the naughty warning light:

#1 injector
Engine coolant temp sensor
Crank Position sensor
Intake air temp sensor
Manifold Absolute pressure sensor
Throttle Position Senor
Vehicle speed sensor.

Good luck with your diagnosis, hope you can use these as a start.
Getting it plugged in will vastly narrowed down.

Sounds like crank position sensor, same thing happened to mine month or 2 ago.My symptoms were red engine light and rev counter stopped working and was way down on power.Once I was sure revs were counted by the cps I knew what to look at.
Its simple to remove once you've got access to it.I had to remove the exhaust down pipe.

Just reread your post JB ,my light came on once before when there was a hole in the flexi joint on the exhaust downpipe. The escaping smoke caused the air filter to clog up,I hadn't noticed a hole in the exhaust before that.

Please let us know what it turns out to be....good luck.
