Hi again

The alternator has gone pop on my 98 L-Series 2.0TD. I have everything ready for the alternator to be removed, except one problem. The lower mounting bolt, I am guessing was installed the wrong way around. As a result, trying to withdraw it, the power steering high pressure line is in the way. The big book of lies (Haynes) doesn't mention needing to remove the high pressure line.

As far as I can tell, the union nut is a 17mm nut (please correct if wrong), and there doesn't appear to be room to get on to it and remove it. I cannot see the bolts that hold the pump on the block to try and just move it enough.

Does anyone have any pointers on options? I have considered just cutting the pipe, and then when the alternator is off replace it but I am struggling to find a replacement.

Any tips/tricks appreciated.

You don't want to go by what Haynes says.

Download the LR Rave workshop manual, its instructions are always spot on (assuming standard engine)....

You need a Windows PC to run it on.

There are 2 version of Rave, 1 for the older 1.8 & L Series and another for the later 1.8 & TD4 & KV6 - make sure you get the one for the L Series.
