Have any of you fellas got LED DLR lights fitted to your P38?....I'm toying with the idea of fitting them discreetly into my lower front bumper...any advice or opinions would be appreciated.

The only opinion I can offer is that I can't imagine any possible way to make this look good on a P38.

On an L322 it might look cool, but personally I reckon it would look wrong on a P38.

There is a "Daylight Running" option in the Becm settings which is disabled for UK and some other markets. Easy to "Enable" it with diagnostics on the car if required (10 min. job)

Don't do it would be my advice. Tends to look pretty crap on older cars for which it wasn't designed, and indeed even some cars which are supposed to have them! Also it looks too obviously after market. As above you 'might' get away with it on a L322 if done right, but a P38 I doubt.

Each to their own though, if you think it looks good; its your car and it's you who has to look at it each day!

On my L322 i changed the factory side light lamps to super bright LED lamps - they look much more modern.

as long as there not the audi style running lights as every car has them fitted now and they look stupid on anything other than an audi :p

Thanks for all your input....On reflection, I tend to agree with the "don't do it" argument on the "aesthetics" point of view!
I was thinking purely on an extra safety feature, as these lights are noticeable, particularly in the gloomier days of autumn and winter.....Also, aren't they supposed to be a legal requirement on all vehicles in 2012?...I have heard this somewhere??

I saw some 'audi-style' DLRs fitted to a Citroen BX yesterday.... enough said!

Cheers,

Jerry
ps I think they look rubbish on Audis too......

I relocated my sidelights into the front indicators looks better must say
ill do some pic tomorrow if anyones botherd

Yes, please send some pics.

I don't like the idea of anything aftermarket like those DRL light bars on old cars but i upgraded to bixenons and LED sidelights (with 8 leds).

No. Only new vehicles (cars/vans type-approved after 7 Feb 2011, and trucks sometime in 2012) need them. I have lifted this from the Dept for Transport website:

Retro fitting DRL
There is no requirement to retro fit DRL on vehicles not fitted with them as
standard. If you decide to retro fit DRL you should ensure they have been
approved to the correct European legislation. This can be confirmed by
checking that the approval mark embossed on the lamp contains the letters
"RL". Ideally retro fitted DRL should be installed such that
they activate automatically when the engine starts and switch off when
headlamps are turned on. If this is not the case then you must ensure that
you manually turn DRL off at night as they will cause dazzle and discomfort to
others if used in low ambient lighting conditions.

Is this really true? Another pointless stupid euro rule, no doubt. All the Volvo owners I know used to disable their stupid sidelights. Presumably doing this will now be illegal?

Obviously we're all too stupid to realise when to switch our lights on.

Why can't they come up with some sensible rules for a change, like mandatory V8s, banning diesels etc?

If you want them just switch your side lights on for fook sakes it's not bloody rocket science.

Thanks gfromleeds....Your front grille looks pretty good too....did you get it from fleabay?

Cheers and no i made it myself! the ones on ebay just have a bit of plastic stuck on to cover were the lights cut in and dont have the same profile/curve as the p38 bonnet (in other words they dont fit propperly)
This one was made from fiiberglass with only the silver bars being the only part from the original grill i bought
did it this way so the curve matches the p38 bonnet line not the sports
Was a right pain in the arse let me tell you.but ill make you one for a million quid if you want one

Hi
I have added CREE DRL's to my P38 as these are brighter than the LED ones and actually project light. I have attached them to my Bull Bar and I think this gives the impression of an OEM installation.
These are installed as proper DRL's so when the side or headlights go on, these dim down.
As I have HID's fitted, these are so mjuch more subtle for daytime driving.

I have attached some pics with off/on/ with lighting.
