Hi Guys, can someone tell me is it possible to remove the heads and drop the sump with the engine in situ so that I can replace the liners? I have a slight o/heat problem so was going to remove heads, pressure test and refit but I think it may be a liner weeping so thought I would change liners and rings at the same time along with new water pump, the stat is new but she still starts o/heating on a long climb. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

If you want to take the liners out then it's best do that on an engine stand!! It's not impossible to do but it would be much faster in the long run. Trust me i'v rebuilt 3!! Just taking the heads off with the engine in situ is a ball ache let alone the liners too. It's not just the sump that needs to come off as the lower crank case does too. It's a lot of work but keeping the engine in the car makes it a real ordeal!! Although unless you are getting water in the oil I'd leave the liners well alone!! If you are getting an overheat and not loosing the water you want to be checking the rad and fans first before major engine work!!
