I've got a metallic knocking on what sounds like the front nearside suspension.
I haven't investigated yet, but wondered if this was something common, and where to look.

It's an 06 facelift td4 model.

We've owned it for a couple of months and done the usual jobs, massively helped by this forum. Tomorrow is our first trip out with the caravan. I'm hoping I won't miss my old Passat, but 30hp less is a lot!

It'll probably be the ARB drop links. Don't buy cheap, or you'll be doing them again very soon. Only buy OE or genuine LR parts.
Avoid cheap EBay drop links, as those don't even make it to the next MOT.

Have you done all the Freelander 1 specific checks for the 4X4 system? Like making sure it has 4 identical tyres, and done the one wheel up test?

Thanks for that - I'll get underneath and check that first. Some parts aren't worth buying cheap!

It had 2 pairs of part-worn tyres on it when we got it, but due to two punctures in two weeks (both sidewall area), it now has a set of four new tyres - it's been an expensive month!
I haven't done the 1-wheel test yet, but the 4x4 system is working. It's a strange sensation feeling it tighten up on full lock when parking etc. My first car was a 1955 86" Series One, and my second (and current) is a 1957 88" Series One, so I'm not used to a vehicle doing things automatically!

Our first trip towing the caravan went smoothly (apart from the kids!). It tows it very well, although it really could do with a remap - I miss the extra bit of power, but it's not as slow as I thought it might be.
