Hi

Re my 53 plate Frelander TD4.

I have a slight knock coming from under the front near side when going over bumps. Can be very slight bumps that cause it.

It was at the garage yesterday on the ramps - the only thing they could find was a very slight play in the steering rack. Everything else including the anti roll bar seemed fine.

Is it possible that the noise is coming from the anti roll bar links even though no movement could be felt when tested?

If it is the rack, can you get parts as the garage thought not when looking at it?

It could be the strut or top mount. These are a known place for knocks to originate. The drop links can cause various noises too.

My first shot would be to cup your hand around the ball joint on the end of the rack (where it joins the hub) and get someone to rock the steering wheel (with the steering lock unlocked!). Every time I sense a knock over bumps on my fleet ( I have 3 FL) it is one of these joints. Easy to change and about £15. As Nodge says it may be the strut tops (never had it though) and maybe the drop links. These can be tested in the same way as the ball joint. Mind your fingers !!!

Thanks for the replies.
The garage asked to me to see if the noise stopped if the rack was loaded - I managed to go backwards and forwards with the car on full right lock over some bumps and the noise stopped.
Does that help?

I had a weird metalic rattley noise from the front left, I replaced TRE, drop link, wishbone, antiroll bar bushes and it turned out to be the strut.
The noise came and went but was worst when going over a pot hole where the wheel dropped suddenly.
