Whenever I drive my Defender 110 lately I get a sore clutch knee.... Its infuriating... any ideas ? It doesn't feel particularly hard I just wondered if anyone had the same or if there is a way to loosen it up ?

I assume only the return spring oil/grease would help but guess that's a tiny percentage of pushing the clutch ?

5 years ago it has new master/slave cylinders ? would new ones help ?

if it isn't stiff, it'll be the position. readjust the seat or fit another type

I don't understand what's changed.... you mean fit another type of seat ? I am 6ft 2 and its as far back as it will go...I haven't seen any other seat types ?

Check out Mulgo seat rails. I'm 6'2" and the Mulgo rails move the seat back, but don't raise it... Absolutely brilliant.

Also, the red booster is a great piece of kit. While I don't have one, I used to have a Series, that I added a booster to the clutch and brakes. It was a night and day difference!

Outside of that, check out the TD5 clutch mod. Not sure what model you have, but the new spring added to the clutch made a huge difference. Not like adding a vacuum booster, but made the truck more drivable.

Keep us posted on what you do and find out that helps.

The td5 clutch pedal mod does make a fair difference in my experience if you don't already have it.

Also you can cut the clutch pedal, add 25-30 mm in length and slightly change the angle of the pad, makes a big difference because of the additional leverage

Has it still got the two return springs on the pedal? I removed them years ago for the same reason and it made the clutch a lot lighter.

Click the link I posted, it sounds like its just a case of popping the new spring in but that would appear to be fairly fiddly.

btw, 300 tdis have it as standard. so if you get a 300 pedal assembly it'll already be on

My 2001 td5 had the two spring setup, changed it for the later type, so much lighter on the knee, well worth doing the convertion.

I am considering this modification after having a read up on it.
I changed my clutch master cylinder a couple of months ago and dint buy original and looks like it's starting to leak already.

I have seen the td5 clutch pedal as a unit off a new land rover.
Is it worth buying all the lot together as it's not far off the price of a genuine cms on its own?

What will be needed to fit it?

the td5 is the heavy one. the mod is to turn it into a 300 setup.

I have a 200tdi. I saw the td5 full clutch pedal and master cylinder with the modification specified.
Will it make a difference adding the spring to mine?
Is there any advantage to fitting the td5 set up........ie parts etc
