the re-chargeable key fob stopped working a year or so ago so had a new battery installed , worked ok for about 8 months then slowly stopped working again so put it down to the ignition not charging the fob,
now after having to lock it at the door lock and internal central lock button, the fob is now coming apart as the lock is quite stiff, is it possible to take out the re chargeable battery and replace it with a normal battery, and will it need reprograming???

Can u match the rechargeable with a standard battery spec.? It appears that the quality of your replacement didn't match the original to only last eight months.

The data is kept on a eprom so it will be ok if you replace the battery directly, a bit like battery replacement on a Sky remote :)

Bottom line is I would stay with the rechargeable battery as you won't have any indication of the failing standard battery, most modern vehicles using a normal battery usually have a indication of a failing/faulty standard battery, ie. the indicators falling to flash.
