Hi Guys,

Since my last forray with a Disco (and failed) I've bought my wife a Freelander (2003) with a view to me getting another Disco soon.

Now the problem...

Tonight we were at Tesco's and on returning I zapped the button and opened the back door and put the shopping in.

Then... I put my Metro key into the ignition and tried to start the Freelander. Obvlously no joy.

But then I put the Freelander key in and it would'nt even turn. Seemed like the ignition barrel was locked.

Afeter locking / unlocking 4 or 5 times and no joy, my wife is in panic mode. My son is at home (15 miles away) with 3 grandchildren and no way of getting the car home before bed time.

After 5 mins, we locked the car and waited (to a count of 60) un-locked the car put the key in and .... all ok. Car started fine.

Now she thinks we have a key problem and it can happen any time.

I think its because I put the Metro key in first, part of the security kicked in and locked the barrel.

I've Dr Google'd it, I've Searched and I can not find out what happens if you tgry to start the car with the worng key.

Help - anyone with any ideas.

Do I need to go into panic mode and strip the ignition or just watch the key I use???

Thanks

Dave

Does your metro key have a thing inside it which the ignition detects to know if it's the correct key?

Nope ... I thought of that.

Its a 1990 1.4 L. No immobiliser fitted.

But I did try to turn the key.. Do you think it will make a difference?

Thanks Hippo,

But it literally felt like there was a pin stopping the ignition from turning.

And.. the Steering lock was not engaged.

I did contemplate turning the steering wheel until it locked and pull the wheel to the left to release it etc...

But after 5 mins, all ok... WTF
