As in the thread I swore i wouldn't, I've got a 4.2 Supercharged about to join the car collection.

I'm not going to sell the P38. It owes me nothing. In the 7 years I've had it I've replaced air springs with Arnotts, overhauled the valve block and compressor, martyUK did the heater matrix and blend motors I did the HG last year replacing everything that was needed including the manifold heat shields, cats and O2 sensors, MAF, it's on BRC LPG, fusebox, rear calipers and discs. But the front cover is seeking water and I have the parts and timing gears and chain in the garage ready to go if for oh a month now, just not had the time. headliner done factory sat nav a d stereo still good. And it's been solid.. needing some TLC it's just kept going for me and the Mrs. it doesn't owe me anything. But i owe it lots. I'll roll it in the garage and give it TLC when the SC arrives.

I tentatively suggested to the wife that I have a 71 Suffix A, a 91 CSK, a 2001 P38... all I need is a 1981 and I have a full set of 10 year interval RR's... she didn't flip out. I'm joking... she would kill me.

But the P38 stays!

Good, i'd have to come over to Surrey and give you a good thrashing if you gave her away.. ;)

A good p38 is like an old dog, always willing to take on anything ;)

A nice 81 wouldn't go a miss! shame you sold your ardennes green Classic that was a minter ;)

Yes the ardennes green one was a beaut. 88k original miles too. I restored it as I wanted it to be. but unexpected redundancy, mortgage new baby and storage it had to go. im sad that my 986 S went too i had gone through that too but parent good didn't warrant two 2 2-door 2seaters as the wife's MX5 6 speed is a cheap car now. my plan on that is to keep and the wife use occasionally and in 16 years time give it to the daughter as a classic. it will fetch peanuts now on a sale. I now work 2 miles away rather than the 45 my wife works 6 miles away so our cars don't get huge mileage. I'm on client site 2 days a week so a 150 mile run happens 2 days a week.

I want to get the P38 back to reliable and sound. The gearbox oil needs doing as reverse is getting slack. On top of the front cover and while the drivetrain rumbling has diminished somewhat since doing the front propshaft I still need to do the rear.

The market on P38s is starting to solidify now. no longer will a grand get you a sorted one.

When it snowed last year I went to check on my mum who is lives in a pretty inaccessible road when it snows. the Cayenne was, well, not as sure footed or as capable as the RR. but different beasts. one is an SUV one a luxury 4x4.

The P38 has done me proud many times over. I'm sure the L322 will be awesome in its own way, but the P38 is just so capable and gives confidence to do so much. For what I would get for it now and the parts to do what it needs are peanuts, it's just labour time, it would be crazy to get rid just now. I may change my mind later but right now, once it has the TLC it deserves. It's capabilities outweigh any disadvantages. I may even get the leather redone and bumper scuffs redone.

They're a great car and with only 167k made in the first place and many of them have gone to the great scrapyard in the sky it's no wonder they're gaining in value, especially a late Vogue..

Also think they're one of the best looking RR models they have a certain elegance about them ;)

Any chance of you doing mine? I'll push it into yer garage and supply the tea and biscuits ;)

Yes sure.. give me a hand with Suffix A and CSK.. or if you can wait for me to get those mostly done and ready for paint !
 
Hmm what needs doing on the CSK and Suffix?

You still got the LSE?
Suffix A engine needs to go back in. panels back on wiring, dash in, brake lines, Axles. then interior..

CSK need to do inner front wings and rear wheel arches. then interior back in and panels back on

You still have all the CSK's interior pieces?
 
Will the P38 be "retired" and relegated to occasional use while you restore her?

The Cayenne has been super. When I got it the wheels were vibrating with no brand tyres and the discs were shot. new set of discs tyres and pads it's smooth as anything. the only failure was the propshaft u bracket rubber. £245 for a new propshaft and a couple of hours to fit as the exhaust needs to be dropped and that is all.

Once the front cover on the p38 is done, propshaft and gearbox.. it's probably a sticking valve and news a drain and new filter. it should be good to go. I'll rebuild the calipers too scrub the carpets and deep clean the leather in summer.
