Just a quick easy question this time. Fitted on of these, purely because the original one was missing when I bought the Series III so I went for the cheap, simple option. But it seems too simple. Is this fitted right? I just stuck it on the end of the air intake pipe. Also, should I fix it to anything, it's just sort of... hanging there... :D

I know it's not the ideal solution, but it'll do for now.

Take the pipe off and stick it driectly on the carb.
Ah! Of course. I need an emoticon for slapping my forehead here...
I've use 57i's on Veccy's, Golfs, Escorts and found them lacking.
Any good on the Landy?
I've read some bad things about them actually. Slightly better power and mpg (maybe) but poor in dusty conditions, I think the lack of sufficient filtering can be pretty bad for the engine. I'm using it temporarily till I can find a better solution. Not doing any off roading right now anyway.
Hi Ian, could you tell me the part number and the place from where you got that filter please?
Got it from Paddock Spares - K and N Filter - Series Petrol 4cyl - Oil Bath Replacement - Bolt On

Cheers Mad hat:)

I have found that an enclosed induction system with dedicated cold air feed works better than the open induction. Problem with 57's is they suck in the hot air in the engine bay which impairs performance by a margin.
Or Pipercross brand air filters are good, they breathe better than any other I've found

Sorry if this is preaching to the choir but it's impossible to see everything you guys have chatted about on this one.;)

PS: You could feed a hose from the air intake to the 57. That does help some I found

Thanks for that Ian, did you just blank off the intake on the carb?
You know, I'm not really sure what to do. I smacked it on like this (see photo) as it was the only way I could see it going on, but there is indeed now a pipe just to the left of the carb / air filter, that was previously taking air somewhere from the pipe I removed, that is now just pointing into space. The engine runs just fine, better than before actually, so I'm not sure what's going on.

Anybody?

Thats it.
The now spare pipes are for the emissions / breather pipes from the crank and cylinder head.
Mine run just fine with out them (left open) but i'm open to suggestions from anyone else?

The emission pipe from the oil filler to carb has been blanked off on my, currently buggered s3 engine, leaving no breather for the engine other than the rocker cover one which spits oil everywhere. think this is why all the oil seals pass like they weren't there! i'd highly recommend not blanking/plugging it!!!! :(

You might want to extend the emission pipe down from the oil filler to somewhere near the bottom of the engine - you'll then have one of those fancy automatic chassis protection systems thanks to the oil that is being sent down it.

I'm still wondering what the inlet at the base of my Zenith carb does - this was connected to the same 3 way piping that connected the oil filler cap and air intake hose.

according to my manwell the oil filler cap hose should be connected to the inlet on the bottom of the carb via an nrv and the rocker vent should be connected to the wee inlet to the carb/air filter hose so all the fumes are sooked back in and recycled!

What manual is that ? - looks like my oil filler cap and carb base and air intake hose are all connected via garden hose style tee.

What are you calling the rocker vent? - on my 2.25 petrol the only outlet os from the filler cap.

Confused now.

i'v just got a haynes manual, the rocker cap is the mushroom shaped cap with a little tube on the side. this connects to another small tube on the side of the carb inlet hose.

the other hose connects from the side of the oil filler pipe and through an nrv to the bottom of the carb. cant be totally necessary as my has been pluged up!

Best extend them and run them along the chassis to the rear where the oil mist being emitted on that long hard hill can lubricate the screen of white van man sat fuming on your bumper. Also stops the cab filling with fumes after a hot run when you've got your vents open;)

^ also a good mod to shake pursuing enemy secret agents off your tail!
the next james bond car should be a s3!

also sprays a mist of oil all over the road making the roads treacherous for motor bikes, not really a wise idea eh ;)
