As the title says. I've had the ABS light on all the time for about a month, having started as an intermittent fault when going over bumps in the road. I can still feeel the ABS working though. Whether it works on 4 wheels at the same time I don't know.

A friend of a friend ran their SnapOn diagnostics on my 96 diesel p38 today. Faults recorded were:

1.5 Internal ECU failure
2.5 NSR sensor air gap too large
6.5 NSR sensor open circuit
8.4 OSF sensor open circuit
8.5 NSR sensor open air circuit intermittent
10.5 NSR sensor air gap too large

All the sensors were giving outputs until a certain speed reached (LR manufacturer setting?), he didn't get out of 1st gear. His suggestion was to get the ABS box checked out first. KwikFit couldn't get their Bosch diagnotics to communicate at all the other week when I had the discs replaced. The local garage's Delphi diagnostics (they swear by it) couldn't communicate at all either.

Ill see what NANOCOM says. MoT due in November so I need to get something sorted. Remove bulb? ;-)

Removing bulb is no good if the MOT man knows his stuff. On ignition ABS lamp flicks off and on again then does not go out until vehicle is doing 5 MPH. If that does not happen it is a straight fail. Push all ABS sensors in until they touch the reluctor rings. The air gap is set on rotation. Check connections. You may have a duff wheel bearing.

Some modules only respond with ignition on or off or only respond in certain conditions. I haven't got the Nanocom manual on me but got a feeling the ABS module only responds below 5 mph.

Communication with the ABS ECU stops when the vehicle speed exceeds 1.6 MPH. To check for signals from wheel sensors, the wheels must be lifted and turned by hand.

In my experience most MOT peope have no idea anout the ABS on P38
I was failed for light not going out until pointed out that car has be travelling at certain speed.
Have also had garage strip down dashboard to trace a fault in ABS but was actually a UJ on prop shaft
