so I've just bought a td5 discovery 2 in the spec I wanted green with cream leather in the ES spec. Looked at the vehicle and it was rough in some areas some very minor some more major however as this will be a project before becoming a daily drive I'm not worried.

On the test drive the instrument lights all came on and went out. The engine was very quiet, more than I expected being use to tdi's and a test drive on country roads, a small town and a dual carriageway proved it pulled nicely with no nasty noises and no smoke.
The gearbox felt nice with no crunching however the gear stick rests to the far left which I believe is the spring bias plate. Simple job to do and only £10 to sort. One rear window doesn't work from the master switch, sunroofs have been sealed, seats are a little worn. Brakes felt good, ACE appeared to work nicely, low and high range were good.

There's a small hole in the rear chassis leg and another on the chassis in the front wheel arch, I can weld and have a welder so effectively a free fix.

All of this cost £956 in my mind a bargain. Vehicle has done 150,000 miles. I reckon if I budget nearly a grand to make it really nice I'd have a prettt good top spec disco for under £2000. I will have to buy a diagnostics tool probably a hawkeye and read and previous and current faults.
First job is to get it the 170 mile journey home but I have breakdown cover just in case.
Once home a full service and clean will be done as well as fixing the gear selection.
So might even do a little resto thread on here.

When I pick it up I will I will need to sell some cars as my house looks like a miniature Land Rover factory. With a series 2a, a 110, a defender 90, Range Rover classic and now a discovery. The Range Rover and defender are soon to be sold once both have a fresh 12 months

Sounds nice @109inches , If it all it needs is a little TLC then a good buy. What year?

Does it have SLS? check it works, also check the HDC works.
I assume as an old LR hack you have the rave manual.
Check the oil pump bolt, when you get a chance.
Oh, and I would be remiss if I did not say, make sure you have the EKA code.

Ref the diagnsotics, Are you aware that there is a new hawkeye on the block, the hawkeye total. I understand it is unlocked for all LR vehicles that it works on. Altho I do like my Nanacom....:D

Cheers

It needs some work a lot of is aesthetic tbh. The air suspension works but I will be going over it thoroughly it will be my daily car come mid march and it has MOT until may. I have access to two other cars that I'm currently insured on so no rush to get it in daily service. I'm going to drop the sump check and even replace the bolt for the oil pump for the cost in doing it and the consequences if it did let go it seems stupid to not do it.
A full service will be done, the welding and the gear stick selection will be first to do.
I was lucky in getting it as it's located in the middle of nowhere and I was the only one to see it. Tyres and spare are also all good.
It's probably the best condition Land Rover I've bought and nearly the cheapest.

As long as it gets home in 1 piece I'll be pretty pleased with it. Then I'll go in the field also to make sure the four wheel drive traction control system works.

Any pics?!

Are nano's unlocked for all landys? 300 for the Hawkeye total, which looks like a Hawkeye pro just for land rovers not all other makes, seems pretty good! :)

Hi Ryan,

Nanocom is the same as the hawkeye , you have to pay for unlock codes for other LR vehicles. The Hawkeye Total has opened this up. Is a good price if you own multiple LR vehicles or like to work on others.

Cheers
